Chaplain’s Study of The Bible Reveals Jesus Was Gay, Committed to John

Now while I'm all for creating a more gay friendly bible, I would like a lot more study on the matter of Jesus sexuality.

Where are the true Catholics?

Details emerging from the Catholic clergy-abuse trial in Philadelphia paint a sickening picture of a truly corrupt organization. We recognize that child sexual abuse happens regardless of religion, but we also recognize that certain aspects of religious doctrine can facilitate it (e.g., the degree to which priests are placed on pedestals, the notion that they have a direct line to some sort of god, the idea that we should trust them). And yet, the well orchestrated conspiracy of silence that allowed child rape by Catholic clergy to continue long after it was known seems impossible to excuse.

My question, once again, is this: what would the Catholic Church have to do in order for American Catholics to leave in droves? How bad does this have to get before Catholics wake up?

From the Advocate: Maddow, NBCUniversal Work to Dismiss $50M Lawsuit

"Rocker/preacher/radio host Bradlee Dean is suing the popular television host, saying she defamed him on her show by reading a speech he made that stated Muslims who want gays killed are "more moral than American Christians."

But Maddow took Dean's words verbatim, only truncating his entire speech. This is Dean's second lawsuit against Maddow." -The Advocate

When will the religious right stop their crusade against progress, freedom, peace and love?

Vatican Reprimands a Group of U.S. Nuns and Plans Changes

When people ask me why I so vocally oppose the Catholic church and organized religion I always find myself citing their various human rights abuses and refusal to move ahead in regards to science etc. But never could I have thought the Vatican would be so brash as to reprimand a group of nuns attempting to spread the "word" through love and understanding. But that's what the church is doing according to this New York Times Article. Perhaps the church is once again peddling for the social conservatives that once ringed it's halls during the third-reich of Germany. Because not only is the church openly targeting the Lesbian and Gay community, but also women: regardless of their faith and affiliation to the church. So if you're outraged then make your outrage know: contact them via email at USEmbassyVatican@state.gov

I am rather glad to have a president who takes a firm stance in defending the rights of minorities. Especially historically oppressed and persecuted minorities.

Humanising victims of Mexico's violence - Americas - Al Jazeera English

Humanising victims of Mexico's violence - Americas - Al Jazeera English

Is it not our responsibility to ensure our neighbors live in health and peace? Or at the very least, with the ability to remain a free nation. I'm sure drug cartels are a drag on free trade.

Immigration Reform: Arguments for Open Borders

I'm always troubled when people talk about immigration reforms as either things that do not affect them, or as if they themselves do not come from a family of immigrants. I'm also troubled when those talking about it do not understand all the principals (economic, social, political and environmental) that surround it.
Economically speaking - immigration helps markets in laissez faire capitalist mode by providing truly open border countries and the free flow of capital and labor. Countries where laissez faire is the common place have little to no regulations on the flow of labor and capital. And while this is a very reckless approach towards creating sustainable communities where people can thrive, it is the mode of thought which many in our country like to place themselves in. Yet these people, the very same who identify as capitalists, say "no" to immigration and open borders. As such they are hypocrites as a truly free market cannot exist with governmental restrictions on the flow of labor.
Socially speaking, many defenders of closed borders do not have a grasp of their own family histories. All of these people are from families that immigrated here from Europe or Asia in the past 200 years; a full 200+ years after the ancestors of these "new immigrants" came to the new world. As such, if time on the land was a predecessor towards who is the immigrant and who is not then all the people who disagree with an open border need to be deported back to their homelands.
Politically driven border closings happen all  the time and the United States is not immune to these things. One of the reasons for our restrictive borders is our poor political policies with neighboring countries - namely Mexico and especially NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement). NAFTA flooded Mexico with cheap corn and forced local farmers (mainly those in Northern Mexico) into bankruptcy. As a result they had to search for new sources of income with the most promising source being the very nation that placed them into bankruptcy.
Environmental issues always seem to draw the most sympathy votes from the populace - from pictures of cute baby seals being clubbed to death to dolphins bleeding in nets. As such it is important to note that closed borders, namely when they come equipped with walls and fences, destroy ecosystems by creating barriers to water, plants and animals. Borders that create situations where illegal immigration is faster then legal means also create huge piles of waste in otherwise pristine locales and watering spots.
All in all borders are a bad idea, be you a capitalist or communist - their negative impacts far outweigh their benefits.

"Don't Say Gay" Bill Advances; Next Up House Vote

Backers of the notorious "don't say gay" bill aren't giving up despite the state's Republican governor wishing the whole thing would just go away.

Tennessee's "don't say gay" bill is headed to the full House for consideration after having barely made its way out of a committee today.

The House Education Committee voted 8-7 to advance the bill, theTennessean reports, but that didn't include Republican chairman Richard Montgomery.

And Republican governor Bill Haslam has repeatedlysaid he wishes lawmakers would move on to more important issues. Haslam hasn't gone so far as to say he would veto the measure if it comes to him.

He also seemed unhappy to have what was called "the monkey bill" land in his lap last month. Instead of signing the law, which extends legal protections to teachers who want to discuss the possibility that creationism is real or that global warming isn't, Haslam waited and waited and eventually let the law go into effect without his signature.

Last time around, the House ran out of time to vote on the "don't say gay" law while the Senate actually passed it. It would bar teachers and administrators from any talk of homosexuality before high school and violators would face fines and jail time. Backers of the bill don't appear to be backing down.

“I have two children — in the third- and fourth-grade — and don’t want them to be exposed to things I don’t agree with,” said the bill's sponsor, Republican representative Joey Hensley, according to the Tennessean.

A day to remember

A rather sad note to start a blog on, but it is an important date in history. A date that took away too many lives and drove our country farther into fear. Can we ask ourselves if we remember the feelings we felt that day and the thoughts that came to our mind, or is the only thing we remember is our cold fear and anger?
